Alberelli di Giodo Nerello Mascalese 2019 in magnum is a Sicilian red with a very clear Etna identity. Giodo is the wine project of Carlo and Bianca Ferrini, and this wine comes from a small vineyard of around 2 hectares with volcanic soils, northern exposure and old alberello-trained vines. It is made entirely from Nerello Mascalese, from vines with an average age of 80 years, grown at around 950 metres above sea level.The character of the wine is shaped by altitude, old vines and volcanic ground. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by extended skin contact, maturation in large oak casks, then further ageing in concrete and bottle. The emphasis is not on heavy oak influence, but on the expression of grape, place and vintage.
Production for the 2019 vintage is listed by the producer at 7,000 bottles, and the magnum format gives the wine extra presence at the table.
