Flavour notes

The colour is deep ruby red with garnet reflections. Aromatically, it brings together dried fruit, chocolate, cinnamon and roasted almond, with further notes of orange peel, raspberry, rose petal, lavender, fennel, dill, plum-like fruit and vanilla.

On the palate it is full-bodied, concentrated and firmly structured. The tannins are clear but ripe, while a fine thread of acidity keeps the wine from feeling heavy. The finish is long, persistent and spicy, with a soft impression that suits its mature Amarone style.

Product info about Zeni Amarone Valpolicella Classico Nino Zeni 2013

Zeni Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Nino Zeni 2013 comes from Valpolicella Classica, the historic hillside area north of Verona. Within Zeni 1870, this cuvée is dedicated to Gaetano Nino Zeni and is made in small quantities, only in the best years from selected grapes.

The wine is based on Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grown on hillside vineyards with clay- and silt-rich soils. For this Amarone, the finest bunches are hand-selected and placed in small crates for five months of appassimento. That long drying period concentrates sugars, extract, aromas and glycerine. Fermentation includes 25 to 30 days of skin contact in wooden vats, followed by five years of maturation in oak casks, with a small part aged in barriques.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this Nino Zeni as a serious example of the traditional Amarone style: dry, concentrated, powerful and spicy, shaped by dried grapes and long ageing, yet with oak that supports rather than dominates. The 2013 vintage also earned notable recognition, including high scores and gold awards, fitting for a limited cuvée produced with such strict selection.

Zeni recommends serving it with braised meat, spiced meat dishes and mature cheeses. A serving temperature of 17 to 19 °C is advised, and opening the bottle at least one hour before pouring gives the wine time to show its depth.

The colour is deep ruby red with garnet reflections. Aromatically, it brings together dried fruit, chocolate, cinnamon and roasted almond, with further notes of orange peel, raspberry, rose petal, lavender, fennel, dill, plum-like fruit and vanilla.

About ZENI

Zeni is a well-known name in the Italian wine world, originating from the region around Lake Garda in the north of Italy. The winery was founded in 1870 and is now run by the fourth generation of the Zeni family, who remain closely involved in both vineyard management and vinification. Zeni works with grapes from various wine regions, including the famous Valpolicella, Bardolino and Soave. The wines from the Valpolicella area are central to their range, with renowned styles such as Amarone, Ripasso and Recioto, but the fresh Bardolino and Lugana wines are also an important part of their offering. The house is known for a combination of traditional techniques and modern insights, allowing them to produce a varied selection of wines that are appreciated both locally and internationally. The family continuously invests in both quality and sustainability, which can be seen in their care for the vineyards and the use of modern vinification techniques alongside respect for local traditions. With a broad palette of wines, Zeni offers a reflection of the diverse character of the Veneto region.
