Château Troplong Mondot 2016 Magnum is the estate's red grand vin from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in Bordeaux, presented in a 1.5 litre bottle. During this period, the château was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé. The 2016 blend is led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc.Troplong Mondot sits at the highest point of the appellation, at around 110 metres, with vineyards on clay, flint, asteriated limestone and loamy clay. That setting helps explain the style described for this vintage: generous, concentrated and powerful, with the structure to develop over a long period. The growing season combined a mild, wet first half with a very warm, dry summer and favourable conditions leading into the October harvest.
The wine was matured in French oak barrels, with a high share of new oak, a detail that matches the recurring tasting impressions of dark fruit, firm tannins and a marked oak presence. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we would place this among the more forceful right-bank Bordeaux wines: broad, dense, cellar-worthy and made more imposing by the magnum format.
The 2016 vintage has been strongly recognised by international critics, with scores often in the mid to high nineties. As these are the last bottles, it is the kind of wine we introduce with a little extra attention rather than as an everyday Bordeaux.

Château Troplong Mondot is a winery that is located on the distinctive limestone hills of Saint-Émilion, in the heart of Bordeaux, France. The estate has a history dating back to the 18th century and is particularly known for its vineyards, which benefit from a unique location on the highest points of the Saint-Émilion plateau. The name Troplong refers to the family who developed the estate in the 19th century, while Mondot refers to the original part of the property.
