EPU 2019 comes across as a concentrated red blend with Cabernet Sauvignon firmly at its core. The aromatic profile moves through dark fruit and spice: blueberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and dark cherry, with floral notes, pepper, herbs, balsamic tones, graphite and olive. A light impression of vanilla or cedar may also be present.On the palate it is medium to full in structure, fruit-driven and spicy, with tannins that range from fine to firm. The texture is described as creamy to silky, while enough freshness keeps the ripe fruit in check. The finish is long, carrying dark fruit, spice and polished tannins.

Product info about Vina Almaviva Epu 2019
Almaviva EPU 2019 is the second wine of Almaviva, made in the Bordeaux tradition of releasing a second selection from the same estate background. The name EPU means two in the Mapuche language, neatly reflecting its role alongside Almaviva's first wine.Cabernet Sauvignon clearly leads the blend, supported by Carménère, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The fruit comes from Puente Alto in Chile's Maipo Valley, at the foot of the Andes, where stony poor soils, cool nights and moderate summer days help slow ripening and aromatic concentration. The wine spent around twelve months in French barriques previously used for Almaviva's first wine.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Chilean red we like to present to customers who enjoy the structure of a Cabernet-led Bordeaux blend, but want it through the lens of Puente Alto. The 2019 vintage was very dry in Chile, and this release shows a ripe, concentrated style at 15% alcohol. A short opening or aeration before serving is worthwhile, and it has the structure for red meat, grilled dishes, poultry and cheese.
The vintage also received strong international recognition, including 94 points from James Suckling and 93+ points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. As these are now our last bottles, it is a timely moment to taste EPU 2019 within its indicated drinking window, with further cellaring potential noted by some reviewers.
