Bibi Graetz Testamatta 2019 Magnum is a Tuscan red built entirely on Sangiovese. For Bibi Graetz, 2019 is also a landmark vintage: the twentieth release of Testamatta since its first vintage in 2000. The producer positions it as a Super Tuscan, yet the message here is very focused. No international blend takes the spotlight away from Sangiovese.The fruit comes from five old vineyards across Tuscany: Vincigliata, Londa, Lamole, Montefili and Siena. Some vines are around 80 years old, growing on hillside sites with stony soils. That origin matters in the glass. Testamatta 2019 is not simply about ripe fruit; it also carries the tension, clarity and mineral impression that the producer links to these vineyard sites.
The winemaking follows the same detailed approach. Grapes were hand-harvested, selected in the vineyard and again in the cellar, with several picking passes to capture the right ripeness in each parcel. Fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts, partly in open barriques and partly in vats or stainless steel, followed by 20 months in old barriques and casks. The ageing adds shape and depth without turning the wine into a wood-driven style.
