Chateau D'Yquem 2016 is a sweet white wine from Sauternes, produced by one of the appellation's most distinctive names and classified as Premier Cru Supérieur. The 2016 blend is led by Sémillon, supported by Sauvignon Blanc, giving the wine a framework in which sweetness and concentration are expected to be matched by clarity and freshness.The vintage has a very specific story. A hot, very dry summer was followed by September rain and sunny periods that encouraged noble rot. Harvesting was carried out in four separate selections, continuing into early November, with a significant share of the crop arriving only in the final weeks. In the end, only around 40% of the harvest was used for the grand vin, a detail that says a great deal about the level of selection behind the bottle.
Fermentation took place in new oak barriques, followed by about 30 months of ageing before the final blend was made. About CH D'YQUEM
Château d'Yquem is a French winery that is world-renowned for its exclusive and long-lived Sauternes, a noble sweet white wine from the Bordeaux region. The estate is located in the Sauternes appellation in the south of Bordeaux and has a rich history dating back to the end of the 16th century. Château d'Yquem is the only winery in Sauternes with the Premier Cru Supérieur classification, a status it received during the famous 1855 classification. The grape varieties used are mainly Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, with the grapes being picked extremely carefully by hand, often in several passes for optimal ripeness and the desired effect of so-called noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). This unique approach results in a wine with impressive complexity and a balance between concentration, sweetness, and fresh acidity.
