Our buying advice for Neisson Godinot Artist

The Neisson Godinot Artist is a good choice for collectors who appreciate the finer sugar cane juice rum. This rum comes from Martinique and was bottled at a cask strength of no less than 70%. This powerful and intensely vegetal rum demands a developed palate. We advise beginners not to start with this kind of rum because its profile can be too overwhelming.

Flavour notes

The aroma opens softly and with subtlety, moving through peony, peppery rose and fresh sugarcane juice. With air, lily of the valley and jasmine add a more heady floral layer.

On the palate it is lively yet gentle in feel. Vesou and fresh cane juice are at the centre, expressed with precision and generosity, before citrus brings extra lift. Vetiver gradually comes forward, adding a dry vegetal depth.

The finish is long, broad and crystal-clear, with a mineral edge. Cardamom, pepper and star anise linger, followed retronasally by medicinal and menthol-like accents.

Product info about Neisson Godinot Artist

Neisson Godinot Artist is a white sugar cane juice rum with a very clear sense of place. It comes from Clos Godinot, a single plot in Le Carbet on the north-west coast of Martinique, set at 245 metres above sea level. The cane grows on a steep 35% slope with generous sunlight, giving this release a strong focus on the character of the cane itself.

Distilled in 2024 and bottled in 2026 at 70%, this is an unaged rum with real intensity. There is no wood influence to soften or redirect the expression; the emphasis remains on fresh cane juice, vegetal brightness and the precision of the distillate. It is a style that shows how expressive white rum can be when the raw material is allowed to speak clearly.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this Neisson as one of those bottles that combines origin, rarity and artistic identity in a very natural way. The release is limited to 1,000 bottles and forms part of ARTIST #16 NEISSON, created for the 70th anniversary of La Maison du Whisky. It is also the first time the ARTIST collection, launched in 2011, has turned its attention to rum, in collaboration with the family-owned Neisson distillery.

The label features a buffalo illustrated by Gribouilliz, whose animal world draws inspiration from the fauna and flora of Martinique. That visual language suits the rum well: vivid, botanical, floral and closely tied to the island landscape from which it comes.

About NEISSON

The story of Neisson Rhum begins in 1931, on the Thieubert estate in Le Carbet, on the North-Caribbean island of Martinique. Adrien Neisson then buys 20 hectares of land there and plants the first sugarcane with the aim of producing rhum agricole using sugarcane juice. From the beginning, they have been concerned about their environment and work as sustainably as possible. Their Savalle column still is famous, allowing them to create very soft and delicate aromas. Their distinctive square bottle, nicknamed Z'ëpol Karë, was launched in the 1950s.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of rum is Neisson Godinot Artist?

Neisson Godinot Artist is a sugar cane juice rum .

Sugar Cane Juice rum is known for its natural, unadulterated taste of sugar cane. In this rum, the juice is directly fermented and then distilled.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a no age statement rum (NAS)?

Yes, Neisson Godinot Artist is a no age statement (NAS) rum. But what exactly does that mean?

According to the rules, when an age is stated on the bottle, it must always be the youngest whisky in the blend and not the age that is the most represented percentage-wise in the blend. A producer will therefore consciously choose not to state an age on his bottle in two cases: when an old whisky is blended with a small proportion of younger whisky, or when young whisky is blended with a proportion of older whisky. In the first case, he does not want to put a young age on his bottle if his blend contains mainly older whisky, and in the second case, from a marketing point of view it is more interesting to go out with that particle of older whisky.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a single cask rum?

No, Neisson Godinot Artist is not a single cask rum.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a rum at cask strength?

Yes, Neisson Godinot Artist is a rum cask strength. A cask strength rum is not diluted with water before bottling, but goes straight from the cask into the bottle and therefore retains the alcohol percentage during/after cask maturation.

One of the advantages of a cask-strength whisky is that, as a drinker, you can decide how strong you like your whisky by diluting or not diluting it with a little water yourself according to your preference, instead of the producer having already done this for you.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist suitable to give as a gift?

Although this Neisson Godinot Artist is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular rum combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced rum-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Neisson Godinot Artist might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a rum to invest in?

Neisson Godinot Artist is a rum of Neisson that was referred to by us as a Collector'srum. That is, we believe they have the most potential to increase in value over time.

Whether that will actually happen we obviously cannot predict. We therefore always advise never to invest or speculate in rum that you would never want to drink yourself out of.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist een goede keuze voor mij?

This Neisson Godinot Artist can be a rum one that suits you if you like a rum with a floral character. Indeed, this florality is quite emphatic in the flavour profile.

However, we recommend that you also look at the rest of the flavour profile, as this florality is of course only one part of the overall character of this rum.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a spicy rum?

No, in the flavour profile of this Neisson Godinot Artist rum there is very little to no significant spiciness at all.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a fruity rum?

On its own, yes, but Neisson Godinot Artist is a rum with only a slightly fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this rum is hidden in the flavour profile, balanced with the other parts of the profile.

  • Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
  • Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Neisson Godinot Artist pure or with ice?

Whether you drink this Neisson Godinot Artist rum best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to rum. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your rum, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.

Does Neisson Godinot Artist have a high alcohol content?

Rum of more than 52% is rather rare. Often, such a high alcohol content is due to the fact that it is a cask strength rum (a rum cask strength): the rum in that case is not diluted before bottling so it goes into the bottle at a higher alcohol content. Rum with a high alcohol content often benefits from a few drops of water to release the aromas and make the alcohol less predominant in the glass, and in itself is also fine for use in stronger cocktails.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist an independent bottling?

No, Neisson Godinot Artist is an official bottling of Neisson.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a solera rum?

No, Neisson Godinot Artist is not produced according to the solera system.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist suitable for making a Dark 'n Stormy cocktail?

The "Dark 'n Stormy" cocktail is a protected trademark of Gosling Brothers Ltd. According to official rules, a cocktail may therefore only be called Dark 'N Stormy (with one apostrophe) if it is made with Gosling's Rum and ginger beer.

Since Gosling only registered the name with single apostrophe, the same cocktail is also described elsewhere as a Dark 'n' Stormy (with double apostrophe) or as a Safe Harbor in an attempt to get out from under the trademark and licensing problems.

If you don't mind the official designation and want to make a cocktail based on the recipe of the official Dark 'n Stormy, this Neisson Godinot Artist is definitely a good choice. To make an official, correct Dark 'n Stormy, however, you need Gosling's Black Seal rum.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist vegan?

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.

Is Neisson Godinot Artist a biological rum?

Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Neisson Godinot Artist rum from Neisson is not an organic product.
