Licor 43 is a Spanish liqueur that originated in the region around Cartagena, in the southeast of Spain. The name refers to the 43 different ingredients from which it is composed according to the manufacturer, including citrus fruits, aromatic herbs, and vanilla. The recipe is said to be inspired by an ancient Mediterranean drink from Roman times, but the modern production of Licor 43 began in 1946, when the brand was officially launched. Licor 43 is known for its bright golden-yellow color and distinctively sweet, smooth character with clear notes of vanilla and citrus, making it enjoyed both straight and in a variety of cocktails. The liqueur is produced by Diego Zamora S.A., a family business that is still based in Cartagena. Licor 43 has become one of the best-selling Spanish liqueurs worldwide and has won several international awards over the years, thanks in part to its versatility at the bar and its recognizable flavor profile.
