Amarula is a South African liqueur brand that is best known for its creamy, sweet drink based on marula fruit. The unique marula fruit grows on the marula tree (also called the elephant tree), which occurs wild in the south of Africa. After harvesting, the fruits are fermented and distilled, after which the spirit matures for some time in oak barrels. Fresh cream is then added, which provides the characteristic, velvety texture and the tropical-fruity flavor profile for which Amarula is appreciated. The liqueur has become popular worldwide in a short time and is often drunk neat, with ice, or as an ingrediänt in cocktails and desserts. The connection with the African landscape continues to feature in the presentation, for example with the iconic elephant logo.
