Blason De L'Evangile 2020 is the second wine of Château L'Evangile in Pomerol, part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. It reflects the estate through a more immediately approachable lens than the grand vin, with an emphasis on suppleness and fruit.
The 2020 blend is led by merlot, supported by cabernet franc and a small proportion of cabernet sauvignon. The fruit comes from sandy-clay mounds and silty sandy soils over clay, lighter parcels that the estate links to a softer, fruit-driven style. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled cement vats, with gentle pump-overs, followed by around 16 months of ageing, partly in one-year-old French oak barrels and partly in vat.

The 2021 blend is 84% merlot and 16% cabernet franc, with fruit selected from lighter sandy, silty and clay-based parcels within the property.
The vintage itself was far from straightforward. An Atlantic growing season, spring frost and changeable conditions shaped the year, making precision especially important. In this context, cabernet franc plays a notable role, bringing aromatic freshness to the blend. 2021 was also the first officially certified organic vintage for Château L'Evangile.

The blend is 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc. The fruit comes from lighter clay-sand and silty sandy slopes with clay in the subsoil, parcels that the estate associates with a suppler, more fruit-led wine than the Grand Vin. In the early, dry and warm 2022 vintage, selection at harvest was especially important: riper west-facing grapes were picked separately, while east-facing fruit and deliberately early-picked Cabernet Franc helped bring freshness into the blend.

It carries a clear connection to the estate, yet it is made in a more supple, fruit-driven style intended to be approachable earlier than the Grand Vin. For this vintage, the blend is 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc, with 14% alcohol.
The 2022 growing season was early and dry, with several heat waves. Selection played an important role: grapes from different exposures were harvested at different moments, while the Cabernet Franc was picked early to help preserve freshness in the final blend. In the cellar, the same careful tone continued, with cold pre-fermentation maceration, temperature-controlled concrete vats and gentle extraction to keep the tannins in check.

The 2016 blend is led by Merlot, with 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, drawn from the estate's vineyard on the Pomerol plateau. Château L'Evangile 2020 is the grand vin of this Pomerol estate on Bordeaux's Right Bank. The blend for this vintage is built around 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, with no Cabernet Sauvignon included in the grand vin. That gives the wine a very clear Pomerol identity: dark fruit, depth and structure, carried by the natural weight of Merlot and the aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc.
The 2020 growing season brought dry conditions, and the château chose to begin harvesting early and selectively. Young Merlot parcels were picked in time to avoid overripe, candied aromas and to protect the freshness of the fruit.
