Quinta Do Fonte Souto 2020 Red comes from Portalegre in Portugal's Alto Alentejo, close to the Serra de São Mamede. The estate's vineyards sit at around 500 metres altitude, and that cooler setting is central to the wine's identity. It brings together the depth expected from a serious red blend with a freshness that keeps the wine lively and defined.Alicante Bouschet, Alfrocheiro, Syrah and Touriga Nacional form the blend, drawn from mature, low-yielding vines. The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before each parcel is vinified with careful control of temperature and maceration. The aim is clear: structure and concentration, but with tannins that remain polished.
Only half of the blend spends 8 months in 400-litre French oak barrels, and those barrels are second and third fill. That detail says a lot about the style: the oak is there for shape and complexity, not to cover the fruit.
