Château Pontet-Canet 2022 Demi is the Grand Vin of Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac, bottled here in the 37.5 cl half-bottle format. Demi refers to the bottle size, not to a different cuvée. This red Bordeaux is a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification and is made from 57% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot.The 2022 vintage was shaped by significant water stress and strong heat waves during the growing season. The château describes the harvested grapes as highly aromatic, with cellar work focused on preserving structure, freshness and natural acidity through early remontage, a few pigeages and long, slow infusions. Maturation takes place over 16 to 18 months, divided between new barriques, concrete amphorae and one-year-old barrels.
Part of the appeal of Pontet-Canet lies in the meeting of Pauillac gravel, cabernet sauvignon depth and a certified organic and biodynamic approach. The 81-hectare vineyard includes Garonne gravel over limestone, with vines averaging around 50 years of age. About CH PONTET CANET
Château Pontet-Canet is one of the renowned wineries from the Bordeaux region in France, located in the Pauillac appellation in the Medoc. The winery has a rich history that dates back to the 18th century, when it was founded by Jean-François de Pontet. Later it came into the hands of the Canet family, which led to the combined name. Since 1975 it has been owned by the Tesseron family, who have since invested heavily in both vineyards and winemaking facilities. The estate covers about 81 hectares, mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Pontet-Canet is classified as a Cinquième Cru according to the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. In recent decades, the switch to biodynamic viticulture has been characteristic; the estate was one of the first major châteaux in Bordeaux to be fully certified organic and biodynamic. This is reflected in a sustainable approach and a strong focus on the character of the terroir. The wines of Château Pontet-Canet are renowned for their ripe fruit, depth, and harmonious balance, with great aging potential.
