Flavour notes

The aromatic profile leans strongly into ripe dark fruit, with black plum, cassis, blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry and dark red stone fruit all noted. Rose petal, mint and blood orange add a fresher, more lifted side.

The new French oak ageing shows through in chocolate, cocoa, espresso, coffee, hazelnut, cedar and spicy wood notes. Liquorice, tobacco, truffle, graphite and an iron-like mineral edge bring further depth.

On the palate, Clos L'Eglise 2022 is full and powerful, with a rich texture, clear concentration and ripe yet firm tannins. The finish is described as long and mineral-toned, with enough freshness to keep the intensity well defined.

Product info about Clos L'eglise 2022

Clos L'Eglise 2022 is a red Pomerol and the grand vin of the estate. Its origin is quite specific: a 4.37-hectare production vineyard on clay and gravel soils with an iron-rich subsoil, located on the northern part of the Pomerol plateau.

The 2022 vintage in Bordeaux was warm and dry, yet the notes available for this wine also point to freshness and tension. The blend is 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc, with that cabernet franc share standing out as relatively high for Clos L'Eglise. The grapes were harvested by hand from 9 to 29 September, fermented in stainless steel vats and matured in new French oak barrels.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Pomerol we would present to customers looking for depth, structure and bottle development rather than immediate simplicity. The wine is described as dry, powerful and concentrated, with ripe but firm tannins and a long ageing horizon. Several sources place the drinking window from the later part of this decade onwards, underlining its serious cellaring intent.

Only the last bottles remain, which makes this a particularly focused choice for anyone following the strongest Pomerol releases from 2022.

About CLOS L'EGLISE

Clos L'Eglise is a French wine producer that traces its origins to the renowned Bordeaux region, specifically in the village of Pomerol. The vineyard covers a relatively small but highly prized plot on the Pomerol plateau, where the soils are rich in clay and gravel, which is favorable for grape cultivation. Clos L'Eglise is especially known for its wines based on Merlot, complemented by smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, which is typical for many Pomerol chateaux. The winery traditionally operates with great attention to quality, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Since the 19th century, the estate has changed hands several times, receiving significant attention in recent decades under owners who invested in modernization and improvements in quality. The wines of Clos L'Eglise are often characterized by their concentrated style, rounded tannins, and an intense, sometimes even lush expression of fruit. The estate usually covers a limited area, so production remains relatively small. Clos L'Eglise generally enjoys an excellent reputation among Bordeaux enthusiasts, particularly within the segment of Pomerol wines, and is regularly mentioned in reviews by the trade press, although it does not have the breadth or fame of some of the very greatest names from the region.
