Flavour notes

Chateau Chantegrive Cuvee Caroline 2022 brings together passion fruit, pink grapefruit, citrus and pineapple, followed by white fruit notes of apple and pear. Apricot and peach add ripeness, while lime blossom, honeysuckle and white flowers give the aromatic profile a more delicate floral side.

On the palate it is dry, medium to full in impression, with roundness and a creamy feel from fine lees and barrel ageing. Citrus freshness keeps the wine lively, supported by mineral notes and a wet-stone edge. The oak influence appears as light toast, gentle spice and a touch of white pepper. The finish is persistent, with freshness and tension carrying through.

Product info about Chateau Chantegrive Cuvee Caroline 2022

Chateau Chantegrive Cuvee Caroline 2022 is a dry white wine from Graves in Bordeaux, with more substance and depth than a straightforward crisp white. First created in 1988, Cuvée Caroline is the estate's oak-fermented and oak-aged white Graves, built around texture, ripe fruit and freshness.

The 2022 blend is 50% sémillon, 45% sauvignon blanc and 5% sauvignon gris. The grapes come from vineyards with gravel, rolled stones, fine sand and clay-limestone soils. After hand harvesting and a cold pre-fermentation phase, the wine ferments and matures on fine lees in French oak barriques, half of them new. Nine months of ageing with regular bâtonnage help explain the combination of creaminess, roundness and citrus-driven tension.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of white Bordeaux we like to present as a gastronomic bottle rather than just an aperitif wine. It has the structure for fish, shellfish, seafood, crab, scallops, salmon and monkfish, while some pairings also point towards white meat. Published drinking windows suggest medium-term ageing potential, with the wine entering its best phase from around 2024 or 2025 and continuing towards 2030 or slightly beyond, depending on the source.

The 2022 vintage was warm, yet the available tasting notes repeatedly point to freshness, citrus energy and mineral tension. With only the last bottles remaining, this is a particularly attractive moment to discover one of Château de Chantegrive's most recognised white cuvées.

About CH CHANTEGRIVE

Ch Chantegrive is a wine estate from the French Bordeaux region, located in Graves, and has steadily gained recognition within the range of Bordeaux wines since its establishment in the 1960s. The estate comprises approximately 96 hectares of vineyards, which are spread over the characteristic gravel and sandy soils of Graves, contributing to the style and quality of their wines. Ch Chantegrive produces both red and white wines, with the main grape varieties for red being Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and for white mainly Sauvignon Blanc complemented by Semillon. The house strives for a balanced, accessible wine style with a distinctive freshness for its white wines and ripe fruit combined with finesse in the red varieties. Over the years, the estate has been included in the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, which reflects a certain degree of recognition within the wine world. The Lëvüque family is at the helm of the estate, combining tradition and modern techniques to ensure consistent quality. Ch Chantegrive is considered a reliable option within the range of accessible Bordeaux wines from Graves, and, due to its versatility, appeals to enthusiasts of both young and slightly more mature wines.
