Klein Constantia 2021 50cl is the 2021 Vin de Constance from Klein Constantia Estate in Constantia, Western Cape. It is a naturally sweet white wine made from Muscat de Frontignan, presented here in the 50 cl format, and shaped by a cooler, later growing season that allowed the fruit to develop slowly and with concentration.The 2021 vintage was built with remarkable precision. Harvest began on 9 March and continued over three weeks, with Klein Constantia vinifying 25 separate batches. Some brought lower sugar and higher acidity, while the later pickings added sweetness and intensity. After fermentation stopped naturally, the wine was matured for 18 months in 500-litre Hungarian and French oak barrels, followed by 16 months in a large wooden foudre.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we like to introduce as more than a dessert wine. It has the sweetness and depth to accompany tarte tatin or crème brûlée, yet also the freshness and structure to work beautifully with blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Stilton. Klein Constantia describes the 2021 as relatively drier in style within Vin de Constance, thanks to the balance between residual sugar and natural acidity.
The vintage has received very strong critical recognition, including 98 points from Tim Atkin MW and Jane Anson. More importantly, the wine carries the story of a cool, measured harvest: concentrated, lively and built with the kind of structure that Klein Constantia associates with long ageing potential.

Klein Constantia is a historic South African wine producer that traces its origins to the late 17th century at the foot of the Constantia Mountains, just south of Cape Town. The estate is especially known for its location on the old Constantia estates, where in the 18th and 19th centuries the renowned Constantia wines were produced and acclaimed worldwide. After several changes of ownership and a period of decline, Klein Constantia was rebuilt in the 20th century and repositioned as a leading wine estate in the region. The vineyards benefit from a moderate climate, a mix of granite-rich soils and the cooling influence of the nearby Atlantic Ocean, resulting in elegant wines with plenty of freshness.
