Flavour notes

Post Scriptum 2023 shows fresh, concentrated fruit, with blueberry, plum, blackcurrant and ripe red and dark fruit. Floral notes of lavender are joined by rosemary, a subtle olive-like spice and a savoury mineral edge.

On the palate it is medium to full in structure, with bright acidity and tannins that feel supple, polished and supportive. The used French oak stays in the background, allowing stony, iron-like accents to add definition without taking over the fruit.

Product info about Post Scriptum 2023

Post Scriptum 2023 is a dry red Douro DOC wine from Portugal, produced by Prats & Symington, the partnership between the Symington family and Bruno Prats. It sits alongside Chryseia as a second wine, made from a complementary selection drawn from the same vineyards: Quinta de Roriz and Quinta da Perdiz in the Cima Corgo.

The 2023 blend is led by Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, supported by Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and other varieties. The grapes are carefully sorted and gently handled, with maceration aimed at a wine that can be enjoyed relatively young while still having the structure for further bottle development. Ageing takes place for 12 months in 400-litre French oak barrels in their second and third year, so the oak influence remains measured rather than dominant.

The growing season helped shape that balance. After the severe drought of 2022, winter rainfall restored soil water reserves, while moderate summer conditions and timely rain in early September supported freshness and even ripening. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Douro we appreciate for its combination of depth, polish and approachability.

It is ready to drink, yet also has potential to develop further in bottle. Its dark fruit, spice and structure make it a natural match for beef, grilled meat, game, barbecue dishes and cheese.
