Domaine Charlopin Tissier Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Fretille 2022 Blanc is a white Burgundy with a very precise sense of place. It comes from the Premier Cru climat Sous Fretille in Pernand-Vergelesses, in the Côte de Beaune, close to Corton. The vineyard sits high on the slope, almost at the top of the hill, with a mostly south-eastern exposure and sunshine arriving later in the day. In the warm 2022 vintage, that cooler setting plays an important role in preserving freshness and drive.The wine is made from Chardonnay from old vines, drawn from a tiny holding of around 0.11 hectare. That small scale gives the bottle a quietly distinctive character before it is even opened. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as the kind of Burgundy that speaks through detail: a specific site, a small parcel and a careful interpretation of Chardonnay.
The cellar work adds depth without taking the wine away from its origin. Spontaneous fermentation, ageing on fine lees and 16 months in 400-litre cigar-shaped barrels all contribute to its structure. A high proportion of new oak is mentioned, yet the tasting descriptions point more towards spice, texture and tension than overt sweetness from wood.
