Château Duhart-Milon 2021 Demi is the half-bottle format of the grand vin from Château Duhart-Milon in Pauillac. Demi refers to the 37.5 cl bottle, not to a separate cuvée. It is a very appealing size when you want to enjoy a classified Bordeaux without opening a full bottle.

The estate is a Quatrième Cru Classé from the 1855 Médoc classification and is part of Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. Its vineyard lies on the coteau de Milon, west of Château Lafite Rothschild, on fine gravel mixed with aeolian sand over a limestone subsoil. The 2021 vintage was less sunny, and that brought the differences between terroirs into sharper focus. Cabernet sauvignon performed particularly well on the dry gravel soils, giving this wine a strongly cabernet-driven blend of 81% cabernet sauvignon and 19% merlot.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this Pauillac as a bottle for drinkers who enjoy precision, freshness and a more restrained Bordeaux style. The winemaking follows the traditional route, with parcel-by-parcel fermentation, gentle pump-overs and ageing in French oak barrels, half of them new. Rather than leaning into opulence, the 2021 builds gradually, with a clear line and a firm sense of place. These are now the last bottles in this format.

Serve it at around 16 to 18 °C. It sits very naturally alongside beef, lamb, game, mature cheeses or slow-cooked stews, especially when roasted, grilled, spiced or red-wine-based flavours are part of the dish.

Château Duhart-Milon 2021 shows a purple colour with violet reflections. The nose is still reserved at first, yet there is real depth: raspberry and cinnamon are joined by black fruit, blackberry, blackcurrant, dark cherry, red cherry, blueberry and cassis-like fruit.

The palate opens with a straight, precise line, then gradually gathers strength. Fine to supple tannins, fresh juiciness and a polished texture shape the wine. Alongside the fruit come cedar, sandalwood, tobacco, leather, liquorice, graphite, pencil shavings, toast, dark chocolate and green peppercorn. The finish is long, with red fruit, discreet vanilla, earthy and stony notes, chalky minerality and a touch of menthol.
