Château Durfort-Vivens 2021 in half bottle is a refined way to approach a serious Margaux without opening a full 75 cl bottle. This is the grand vin of Château Durfort-Vivens, a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, produced in the Margaux appellation of the Médoc.The 2021 vintage is notably Cabernet Sauvignon-led, with 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot. That high proportion gives the wine its classical structure and precise line. The fruit comes from vineyards in Margaux, Cantenac and Soussans, planted on deep gravel soils with sand and clay. The estate works organically and biodynamically, with Demeter, EU Organic and Agriculture Biologique mentioned for this wine.
In the cellar, the approach is careful rather than forceful. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, using natural yeasts and gentle extraction. Ageing lasted 18 months, with part of the wine in new oak barrels and part in TAVA amphorae, a choice the château links to aromatic precision and tannin finesse.

Chateau Durfort-Vivens is a French winery located in the Margaux appellation, in the Bordeaux region. The domaine has a long history that dates back to the 17th century and received its current name after being acquired by the Vivens family in the 19th century. Today, Chateau Durfort-Vivens is owned by Gonzague Lurton, who has continued the winery in the Bordeaux tradition with an emphasis on respect for the terroir. The vineyards are located mainly on gravel-rich soils, which is typical for Margaux and contributes to the elegant style of the wines.
