Product info about Chateau Le Gay 2021
Château Le Gay 2021 is a dry red Pomerol from Bordeaux and the estate's first wine. The blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc reflects its Right Bank origin, with the vineyard lying on the Pomerol plateau across clay and gravel soils.The 2021 vintage has a cooler, more precise personality than the very ripe years that came before it. Selection played an important role, and yields were lower than usual. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Pomerol we value for its clarity: less about sheer weight, more about freshness, detail and a composed tannic frame.
Château Le Gay works with a notably selective approach. Grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, then sorted both as bunches and as berries after destemming. The wine is micro-vinified in new French oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation and ageing taking place in those same barrels. This full barrel vinification in new barriques is one of the defining features of the estate's style.
Production for the 2021 vintage is cited at around 21,000 bottles. With only limited bottles remaining, this is a thoughtful choice for anyone looking for a Pomerol with structure, freshness and the capacity to develop further in bottle.

Château Le Gay is a wine estate in the Bordeaux region of France, located on the prestigious Pomerol plateau. The estate is best known for its red wines, which are largely made from Merlot, often supplemented with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. The history of Château Le Gay dates back to the 19th century, and over the years it has had various owners. Since 2002, the château has been run by the P&ebreve;by family, who are also responsible for Château La Violette. The vineyards cover about ten hectares and benefit from the unique gravel and clay soils characteristic of Pomerol. Great attention to detail is paid in both the vineyard and the cellar, resulting in wines known for their concentration, depth and potential to age.
