Product info about Chateau D'issan 2021
Château d'Issan 2021 is the grand vin of Château d'Issan in Margaux, Bordeaux. It is a dry red French wine from the Margaux AOC and the estate is classified as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is a bottle we would introduce through its sense of place: Margaux, older vines inside the walled part of the château, and a vintage defined more by freshness and precision than sheer weight.The 2021 blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. It was only the second vintage in which Château d'Issan used all five permitted red Médoc grape varieties. The grapes for the grand vin come from plots with gravel at the surface and a clay-based subsoil, a combination the château links to ripeness and freshness in Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Harvest took place from 27 September to 9 October. The second week brought cool mornings followed by sunny afternoons, a detail that fits the described profile of the wine. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel in the château's gravity-fed cellar, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, 50% of them new.
The available notes describe a fresh, structured Margaux with floral detail, red fruit and fine, compact tannins. Different drinking windows suggest a wine that can be approached relatively young, while clearly having the frame for further bottle ageing. About CH D'ISSAN
Ch D'Issan is a historic winery from the famous Bordeaux region in France and is part of the Margaux appellation. The chateau is especially known for its red wines, which are usually composed of classic Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The history of the estate dates back to the 12th century, but Ch D'Issan gained its current reputation mainly from the 19th century onwards, partly due to its classification as Troisième Cru, or third growth status, in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. The vineyards are situated on gravelly soils near the river Gironde, which contributes to the characteristic style of the wines: elegant, balanced and with fine ageing potential. The production is traditional with great attention to terroir and selection of the grapes. In addition to the Grand Vin, a second wine is also produced, often more accessible at a younger age. Ch D'Issan is widely praised for its refined aromas, a harmonious structure and its ability to age beautifully in the cellar.
