Haut Bailly II 2021 Magnum is the second wine of Château Haut-Bailly, from Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. Formerly known as La Parde de Haut-Bailly, it is drawn from the same vineyard base as the grand vin and is selected to show another side of the estate's terroir, with a profile that is more approachable in its younger years.The 2021 vintage was far from straightforward. A mild, wet winter, cool spring conditions, April frost and disease pressure all shaped the growing season, before better weather arrived from mid-August onwards. The cabernets came through particularly well, while yields remained very limited. The blend is led by merlot, supported by cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot.
There is another point of interest here: 2021 was the first harvest vinified in Château Haut-Bailly's new cellar. The estate works parcel by parcel, with separate vinifications in temperature-controlled concrete or stainless-steel vats, followed by maturation with 30% new French oak. The result is described less as a powerful Bordeaux and more as a fresh, silky and elegant Pessac-Léognan.

Château Haut-Bailly is a well-known name from the French Bordeaux region and is located in the heart of Pessac-Lëognan, just south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 16th century and has long been known for producing red wines mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The château owns around 30 hectares of vineyards on a unique sandy gravel soil, which contributes to the distinctive elegance and structure of the wines. Since 1998, Château Haut-Bailly has been owned by the Wilmers family; recently, ownership has passed on to their descendants, with input from an international team.
