Chateau Saint-Pierre 2021 Magnum is a red Pomerol from Bordeaux in the generous 1.5 litre format. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we like to present when someone is looking for a serious right-bank Bordeaux with presence at the table, but without an overly opulent style.The 2021 vintage in Bordeaux was cooler and more demanding than many recent years. For Chateau Saint-Pierre, that means a Pomerol shaped by freshness, floral lift and structure. The blend is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, with Cabernet Franc playing an important role in the backbone of the wine in this particular year.
The fruit comes from parcels on the Pomerol plateau, where sandy-gravel soils and an iron-rich subsoil are mentioned by the estate. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, followed by maturation in a combination of barriques, larger 500-litre casks and a smaller proportion of amphorae. The result is a Pomerol with a compact, precise feel rather than a broad, sun-drenched expression.
Its structure makes it well suited to red meat, small game, sauced dishes and cheese. With the magnum format and the stock now down to the last bottles, this is a thoughtful choice for a special dinner or for those who want to keep a structured Pomerol for a few more years.
