Product info about Le C De Calon Segur 2021
Le C de Calon Ségur 2021 is the third wine of Château Calon Ségur, from Saint-Estèphe in Bordeaux. The name Le C has been used since the 2019 vintage and refers to Calon, to its position as the estate's third label, and to the heart associated with the château.The 2021 blend is 58% merlot and 42% cabernet sauvignon, sourced from younger vines on the estate. It stays within the same Calon Ségur world, yet speaks in a more direct, fruit-led way than the château's first wine. The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Around 14 months of ageing in three-year-old barrels gives support without pushing the oak to the foreground. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a fine way to discover the Saint-Estèphe character of Calon Ségur in a bottle that is described as earlier-drinking and more approachable than the top wine of the estate.
Serve it at about 16 to 18 °C with grilled red meat, beef, lamb, charcuterie or barbecue dishes. As these are the last bottles, this 2021 vintage is gradually becoming harder to find on the shelf.

About CH CALON SEGUR
Château Calon Sëgur is a historic winery from the French Bordeaux region and belongs to the renowned appellation Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 12th century, with the name Calon referring to an old type of boat used to transport wood along the river. The current castle and wine estate became especially famous under the Sëgur family, who were in charge in the 18th century and were also responsible for other major Bordeaux names. Château Calon Sëgur was classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, meaning that since then it has been recognized as one of the third growths of the region. The vineyards cover approximately 55 hectares, with mainly the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines of Calon Sëgur are known for their combination of power and elegance, with a strong character typical of Saint-Estèphe, but with remarkable finesse and aging potential. Today, the château is still highly regarded among Bordeaux enthusiasts and, besides the Grand Vin, also offers a second wine, Le Marquis de Calon Sëgur.
