Whispering Angel 2023 in 12 litres is the familiar Côtes de Provence rosé in an impressive Balthazar format. It is not a separate cuvée, but the large bottle changes the way the wine is experienced: generous, convivial and made for a table where rosé is shared rather than simply poured.Produced by Caves d'Esclans / Château d'Esclans, associated with Sacha Lichine, this 2023 vintage comes from selected vineyards in and around the Esclans valley and nearby parts of the Côtes de Provence. The reported blend is led by Grenache, with Cinsault, Syrah, Rolle/Vermentino and Carignan adding to the Provençal profile.
The winemaking is focused on retaining freshness. The grapes are harvested at night, sorted on arrival, gently crushed, cooled and pressed in a closed system. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by maturation on fine lees with regular bâtonnage. There is no oak maturation mentioned for this cuvée, keeping the emphasis on dry, pale, fruit-driven rosé with a rounded texture.
