Carmes de Rieussec 2021 is the second wine of Château Rieussec, a sweet white Sauternes from Bordeaux. In this 37.5 cl half-bottle, it offers a refined way to enjoy the Rieussec style without opening a full bottle, while still remaining closely tied to the estate's identity under Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite.The 2021 blend is made from 61% sémillon and 39% sauvignon blanc, sourced from Château Rieussec's vineyards on the border of Fargues and Sauternes. This is a place where the influence of the Garonne and Ciron can bring the humidity needed for noble rot, yet the defining impression of this vintage is freshness and precision.
The year itself demanded strict selection. Frost, wet conditions and very low yields meant that the harvest took place in several passes through October, with careful sorting along the way. Fermentation took place in barriques, with separate lots handled individually before blending, followed by ageing on the lees and around twelve months in barrel.
