Flavour notes
The aromatic profile is built around dark fruit: blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry and black fig. Around that core come chocolate, tobacco and clove, followed by mint, sage, rosemary, eucalyptus and white pepper. Floral and earthy touches add depth, while the barrel ageing brings cedar-like and lightly smoky notes. On the palate it is dry, deep and structured, with a medium to full body. The tannins are firm yet fine-grained to velvety, supported by fresh acidity and a clear dark-fruit centre. The finish carries cassis, blackberry, spice, cedar and a restrained smoky edge.

Product info about Acaibo 2017
Acaibo 2017 is a Sonoma County red wine shaped by a distinctly Bordeaux-minded approach. Gonzague and Claire Lurton bring their Bordeaux background to Chalk Hill, where this estate-bottled wine is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grown on the property. The style is built around structure, freshness and dark fruit rather than an overtly ripe Californian expression. The vineyard sits at around 750 feet, between the cooler influence of Russian River and the warmer conditions of Alexander Valley and Knights Valley. Volcanic ash and clay loam soils form the base, while the vineyard is farmed organically with limited irrigation. That combination gives the wine a clear Sonoma origin, handled with notable restraint and precision.
Small-lot vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel is followed by 16 months in French Bordeaux-type barrels, 65% of them new. At Drankenshop Broekmans, Acaibo 2017 stands out as a serious red for drinkers who appreciate depth and structure, with enough freshness to keep the wine focused.
With the last bottles now in view, the ageing potential becomes part of the appeal. The concentration and tannic frame of the 2017 vintage support further development, with drinking windows mentioned up to 2040. It can also be enjoyed now, especially after about an hour in a decanter and served at 16 to 17 °C.
