Carruades de Lafite 2021 is the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild from Pauillac in Bordeaux. This is the same wine presented in magnum, a 1.5-litre format that suits a table where the bottle is meant to be shared and followed over time.For the 2021 vintage, the selection for Carruades was especially strict. The blend brings together cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot, with merlot drawn in part from important terroirs on the south-eastern plateau, close to parcels used for the grand vin. Young vines, harvested separately within top parcels, also played a meaningful role in the final blend.
The winemaking follows traditional Bordeaux lines: fermentation in wooden, concrete and stainless-steel vats, gentle pump-overs and around twenty days of maceration. The wine then matured for about sixteen months in French oak barrels made by the Tonnellerie des Domaines in Pauillac.
