Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2017 is a dry red Tuscan wine from Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, made from 100% Sangiovese. Its identity is closely tied to the elevated vineyards around the Poggio Antico estate in Montalcino, at around 500 metres, with southern exposure and a stony plateau that helps shape the wine's concentration and freshness.Poggio Antico only produces its Riserva in vintages where selected parcels show the required depth, acidity, tannin structure and ageing potential. In 2017, Montalcino experienced a hot, dry growing season, yet the estate notes that winter water reserves and the height of the vineyards helped the grapes ripen steadily. The result is described as a full, powerful style that still keeps its freshness.
The winemaking follows the same serious approach. Harvest took place on 20 and 21 September, followed by cold maceration, fermentation in conical stainless steel tanks and extended maturation: 30 months in 25-hectolitre French and Slavonian oak casks, then another 30 months in bottle. Bottled in July 2020, the production was listed at 6,000 bottles.

The estate focuses on the production of mainly Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino, two renowned Italian red wines made from 100% Sangiovese grapes.
