Sardus Pater Is Arenas Carignano del Sulcis Riserva 2020 is a red wine from south-western Sardinia, presented here in an imposing 3-litre double magnum. It is closely tied to Sant'Antioco, the island where Cantine Sardus Pater gives Carignano a particularly strong identity.Is Arenas means the sands in Sardinian, and the name points directly to the sandy soils behind the wine. The grapes come from sea-level vineyards, with alberello-trained Carignano vines on their own roots and an average age of around 80 years. Old vines, sand and proximity to the sea are at the heart of this Riserva's personality.
Vinification takes place in stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques. The wine then matures for 12 months in Allier oak barriques before a further 12 months of bottle ageing. That approach keeps the Sardinian fruit in focus while adding depth, spice and firm structure.
