Flavour notes

The colour is deeply carmine, with an intense dark core. Aromatically, it moves through violets, red and dark cherries, blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry and forest berries, with graphite and a subtle leafy note adding definition.

French oak brings cedar, vanilla, chestnut, dark chocolate, mocha, espresso and sandalwood, all described as integrated within the fruit structure. On the palate it sits in a medium to medium-full frame, with fresh acidity, fine yet clearly present tannins and a long, tightly shaped finish of dark fruit, graphite and savoury oak spice.

Product info about Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 Magnum (1,5l)

Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 Magnum is a serious Coonawarra Cabernet from South Australia. Within the Wynns range, John Riddoch is positioned as the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon cuvée. It was first made in 1982 and is named after John Riddoch, founder of the Coonawarra Fruit Colony and builder of the historic Wynns Gabled Winery.

The 2019 vintage is made entirely from Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, selected from three key terra rossa vineyards with an average vine age of 36 years. Wynns produces John Riddoch in small quantities from the best available Cabernet parcels on the estate; according to the producer, less than one percent of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are used. The wine is only released in years when the fruit quality is considered suitable.

The growing season explains much of the wine's classical frame: good winter rainfall, a cool dry spring, even warm ripening days without heat spikes and cool nights influenced by the Southern Ocean. Wynns describes 2019 as a classic year, with medium-bodied structure, bright colour and fine tannins. Maturation took place for 16 months in French oak, using a mix of new barrels and one- to four-year-old oak.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this 1.5 litre magnum stands out because it brings together an important Wynns label, a clearly defined Coonawarra origin, strong critical recognition and a bottle format with real table presence. With the last bottles now in stock, it is a particularly relevant find for anyone looking specifically for the 2019 John Riddoch.

About WYNNS

Wynns is a well-known Australian winery from the Coonawarra region, an area that is recognized worldwide for its characteristic terra rossa soil, particularly suitable for growing quality grapes. The winery was taken over in 1951 by David Wynn, who has since linked his name to the brand. Wynns is especially loved for its red wines, with its flagship being the Cabernet Sauvignon, which, thanks to the limestone-rich soil and cool climate, gains a distinctive style: generally elegant, with plenty of fruit and a subtle balance of acidity and tannins. The range consists of various premium wines made from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay, and includes both approachable and more collectible bottles. The Wynns Coonawarra Estate Winery is located in the heart of Coonawarra and owns some of the oldest vineyards in the region, which is reflected in the depth and structure of their wines. With its consistent quality over the years, Wynns has established a permanent place in the Australian wine world and is also appreciated internationally.
