Fresh acidity keeps the palate lifted, while the tannins are firm and present. When opened young, around an hour of decanting can help the wine unfold and soften its edges, leading into a fruity, spicy finish with earthy and lightly bitter tones.

Château Clos Rene 2020 in magnum format is a red Pomerol from Bordeaux's Right Bank, built around Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Malbec completing the blend. It has the shape of a classic Pomerol: ripe fruit at the centre, with floral, spicy and earthy detail giving the wine its depth.The estate is described as lying on the western part of the Pomerol plateau, with gravel, old Quaternary sand and an iron-rich subsoil. Traditional vinification, temperature-controlled vats and around 18 months of ageing in French oak, partly new, give the wine structure while keeping the oak influence integrated.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of magnum we look at with the table and the cellar in mind. The 2020 vintage is marked by concentration, ripe fruit and firm tannins, and the larger bottle size generally allows a slower development than a standard bottle. With only the last bottles remaining, it is a limited opportunity within our Bordeaux selection.

About CH CLOS RENE
Clos Rene is a French wine producer located in the Bordeaux region, specifically in the Pomerol wine area on the right bank of the Dordogne. The vineyard of Clos Rene has a long wine tradition that dates back to the end of the 19th century. The name Clos Rene refers to a so-called 'clos', a walled vineyard, which used to be a mark of quality winegrowing in this area. The vineyards cover about 15 hectares and are planted with grape varieties typical for Pomerol, such as merlot, cabernet franc and a small percentage of malbec. Clos Rene wines are usually known for their accessible style, with fruity notes and a soft structure, which means they can be ready to drink relatively young, but also have the potential to age. The Garde family and Jean-Marie Garde have long been involved in managing the estate, and production partly adheres to traditional methods of vinification and maturation in oak. The location on clay and gravel soils contributes to the character of the wine, which is often appreciated for its balance between power and finesse within the Pomerol appellation.
