Château Coutet 2020 Barsac Demi is a sweet white wine from Barsac in Bordeaux, offered here in a 37.5 cl half bottle. It is the grand vin of Château Coutet, a Premier Grand Cru Classé estate from the 1855 classification.The 2020 vintage is very much a story of careful selection. The grapes were hand-picked in six successive passes between mid-September and late October, with each picking aimed at capturing concentration and purity. The blend is led by sémillon, supported by sauvignon blanc and a small proportion of muscadelle. Fermentation took place in barrique, followed by 18 months in French oak barrels.
Its interest lies in the way sweetness and freshness are held together. The wine has the concentration expected from a serious Barsac, yet the lively acidity and mineral notes keep the profile lifted and precise rather than heavy.
