Alberelli di Giodo Nerello Mascalese 2020 is a Sicilian red wine from Terre Siciliane IGT, made entirely from Nerello Mascalese. It comes from Carlo and Bianca Ferrini's Etna project, alongside Giodo in Montalcino, and its name points to the traditional alberello training of the vines.The fruit comes from a small 2-hectare vineyard with vines of around 80 years old, planted at 950 metres altitude on volcanic soil with a northern exposure. That setting says a great deal about the wine: dry, red and medium-bodied, with freshness, structure and mineral precision rather than weight for its own sake.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by extended skin contact. The wine then matures for around 18 months in 500- and 700-litre tonneaux, before time in cement and further bottle ageing. The oak influence is not described as dominant; it supports the wine's structure and savoury spice.
