Flavour notes

The colour is deep crimson red with an intensely dark core. Aromatically, it brings together violets, red and dark cherries, cassis, blackberry and blackcurrant, followed by cedar, pencil shavings, graphite, eucalyptus, dried herbs, black tea and a light minty note.

On the palate it remains medium-bodied and precise, with red and black forest fruit, raspberry, mulberry, dark cherry and cassis. Bitter dark chocolate, cedar, sandalwood and gentle spice add depth. The tannins are fine yet clearly present, the acidity keeps the wine fresh, and the finish is long and carefully defined.

Product info about Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 sits at the top of the Wynns Coonawarra Estate range. It is made in small quantities from selected Cabernet Sauvignon parcels from the estate, with the 2019 release drawn from three terra rossa vineyards in Coonawarra. The average vine age was 36 years, and Wynns notes that John Riddoch uses less than one percent of the estate's best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

Wynns describes 2019 as a classic vintage. Good winter rain was followed by a cool, dry spring, then evenly warm days without heat spikes and cool nights influenced by the Southern Ocean. The result is not an overly weighty Cabernet, but a medium-bodied wine with clarity, freshness and finely detailed tannins.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Australian red we value for its sense of selection and place: Coonawarra Cabernet, matured for 16 months in French oak, with the oak playing a supporting role rather than dominating the wine. Wynns indicates that it can be enjoyed on release, while also being suitable for careful cellaring for more than ten years. With only the last bottles remaining, this 2019 vintage carries an added sense of scarcity.

About WYNNS

Wynns is a well-known Australian winery from the Coonawarra region, an area that is recognized worldwide for its characteristic terra rossa soil, particularly suitable for growing quality grapes. The winery was taken over in 1951 by David Wynn, who has since linked his name to the brand. Wynns is especially loved for its red wines, with its flagship being the Cabernet Sauvignon, which, thanks to the limestone-rich soil and cool climate, gains a distinctive style: generally elegant, with plenty of fruit and a subtle balance of acidity and tannins. The range consists of various premium wines made from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay, and includes both approachable and more collectible bottles. The Wynns Coonawarra Estate Winery is located in the heart of Coonawarra and owns some of the oldest vineyards in the region, which is reflected in the depth and structure of their wines. With its consistent quality over the years, Wynns has established a permanent place in the Australian wine world and is also appreciated internationally.
