Flavour notes

More mineral tones come through as well, with flint, crushed stone and wet slate, alongside honeysuckle, melon and lime.On the palate it is dry, medium to full in body and noticeably textured. Citrus and elderflower are joined by lemon cream, grapefruit zest, peach skin and orange peel. The creamy, at times almost silky mouthfeel is kept bright by fresh acidity.
The finish carries mineral notes, dried herbs, almond and subtle spice, with gentle supporting accents of toast, honey, caramel and vanilla.

Illumination Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is Quintessa's white wine from California, made with fruit from Napa County and Sonoma County within the broader North Coast area. Although Sauvignon Blanc defines the name and the core of the wine, this is not a single-varietal bottling. Sauvignon Blanc Musqué, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon are brought together to create a dry white wine with aromatic lift, but also notable texture and depth.The wine traces back to a small Sauvignon Blanc planting established by Agustin and Valeria Huneeus on the Quintessa estate in Rutherford in 2002. For the 2021 vintage, estate fruit is complemented by vineyards in South Napa and Bennett Valley in Sonoma. The alluvial soils and cooler conditions near the river help explain the fresh, precise thread running through the wine.
Its cellar work is just as considered. Whole clusters are pressed, then fermented with indigenous yeasts across French oak, acacia barrels, concrete eggs and stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve freshness, while maturation in several vessels, including concrete, ceramic amphorae, wood and stainless steel, gives the wine its layered feel. The 2021 vintage was highly regarded by several critics, including James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast and Decanter. With only the last bottles remaining, it is a particularly interesting moment to discover this textured, refined expression of Californian Sauvignon Blanc.

About ILLUMINATION
Illumination is a white wine from California, United States, that is part of the portfolio of Quintessa, a well-known winery in Napa Valley. The wine was first made in 2006 and is the personal project of Agustin and Valeria Huneeus, founders of Quintessa. The grapes for Illumination are mainly grown locally on the Quintessa estate in Rutherford and to a lesser extent sourced from selected vineyards in other parts of Napa Valley and nearby Sonoma County. The wine is primarily based on Sauvignon Blanc, with small additions of Sauvignon Gris and Semillon, depending on the vintage. The production process is focused on preserving the fresh, vibrant and complex character of the grapes. Illumination is usually produced in limited quantities and has over the years positioned itself as a representative expression of premium Sauvignon Blanc from the New World.
