Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino 2017 is a Tuscan red wine made entirely from Sangiovese within the Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. appellation. The grapes come from Poggio Antico's high-lying vineyards south of Montalcino, between 480 and 570 metres above sea level. In the notably hot and dry 2017 vintage, the estate points to winter water reserves and vineyard altitude as important factors in preserving balanced ripening.The wine follows a classical path: fermentation in stainless steel, maceration, 30 months in traditional Slavonian oak casks and a further 18 months in bottle before release. Rather than representing a single vineyard, Poggio Antico's regular Brunello brings together different parcels from the estate, reflecting its broader view of the property.
