Michele Chiarlo Reyna Barbaresco 2019 is a red wine from Piemonte, made from nebbiolo in the Barbaresco DOCG. The fruit comes from steep vineyards in Barbaresco and Neive, with calcareous clay marl soils and, in the Barbaresco vineyard, a higher presence of sand. It is a wine rooted firmly in place, with the grape variety rather than heavy winemaking taking centre stage.The 2019 growing season adds an important layer to the story. Rain and moderate snow helped build water reserves, followed by a mild, dry summer and well-defined day-night temperature shifts in September and early October. Harvest took place from 12 to 17 October and was described by the producer as small in quantity. At Drankenshop Broekmans, that makes these last bottles especially worth noticing for anyone following classic Piemonte reds.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by at least two years of maturation, including 9 to 12 months in medium and large wooden casks and further ageing in bottle. The result remains distinctly nebbiolo-driven, with red fruit, floral detail, spice and refined tannic structure. It is very much at home alongside risotto, ossobuco or herb-seasoned lamb.

The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo are mainly located in the most famous Piemontese zones, including Barolo and Barbaresco for the red wines from the Nebbiolo grape, but also in regions such as Asti for Barbera and Moscato, among others.
