Michele Chiarlo La Court Nizza Riserva 2019 is a Piedmont red with a very precise origin: the La Court vineyard in Castelnuovo Calcea, within the Nizza DOCG. Made entirely from Barbera, it sits among Michele Chiarlo's cru wines and is released only in selected vintages.The fruit comes from a small parcel within La Court, planted in 1976, with south to south-west exposure and calcareous clay and marl soils of marine sedimentary origin. Harvesting is done by hand, with strict selection in the vineyard. Michele Chiarlo describes 2019 as a classic vintage, marked by lower yields, high-quality grapes, structure and freshness.
The wine is given time to settle into its depth: fermentation in oak vats, followed by a total maturation of 30 months, including time in wood and further ageing in bottle. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a Barbera for customers who enjoy Italian reds with substance, freshness and a clear sense of place. With only the last bottles remaining, this vintage has become all the more worth considering.

Michele Chiarlo is an Italian wine producer from Piemonte, founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo himself. The family company has been active since the beginning in one of the most highly regarded wine regions of Northern Italy, and has strongly focused on producing wines that reflect the character of the region. The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo are mainly located in the most famous Piemontese zones, including Barolo and Barbaresco for the red wines from the Nebbiolo grape, but also in regions such as Asti for Barbera and Moscato, among others. Quality and terroir are central in the winery's approach; a lot of attention is paid to sustainable viticultural practices and a careful selection of grapes. The assortment of Michele Chiarlo ranges from fresh, floral white wines to structured, complex red wines that are typical for Piemonte. The wines of the house are known for their balance and accessibility, and are appreciated worldwide.
