Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grand Cuvée Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2018 is the estate's top cuvée, built around late-ripening varieties. Mourvèdre is the defining grape in this vintage, supported by Grenache and Syrah, giving the wine its dry, powerful and savoury Southern Rhône personality.The fruit comes from Château de Beaucastel in the northern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, where the vineyard is described as one continuous estate holding. Rolled stones lie over clay, sand and limestone, and the vineyards have been farmed organically for more than fifty years. This cuvée places particular emphasis on old Mourvèdre vines and on the expression of Beaucastel's terroir.
The grape varieties are vinified separately and blended after malolactic fermentation. Ageing in large used oak foudres is presented as a way to support structure and integration rather than to give pronounced new-oak aromas. For Beaucastel, 2018 is described as a classic year for Hommage à Jacques Perrin, shaped by excellent conditions after spring mildew pressure and followed by fine, stable weather through to harvest.
