Verite La Joie 2018 Magnum is a Sonoma County red wine with Cabernet Sauvignon clearly at its core. Among Verite's three Bordeaux-inspired cuvées, La Joie is the Pauillac-influenced one: dark-fruited, structured and built around the natural firmness of Cabernet Sauvignon.The 2018 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Its fruit comes from several Sonoma County appellations, including Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley, Chalk Hill and Knights Valley. Verite treats these sites as individual micro-crus, vinifying the small lots separately before bringing them together in the final blend.
Maturation took place over 16 months in French oak barrels, with a very high proportion of new oak and barrel choices tailored to the individual micro-crus. The 2018 growing season was long and relatively cool, described by the producer as allowing slow, even ripening while retaining acidity and moderate sugar levels.
