Product info about Quintessa 2018
Quintessa 2018 is a red estate wine from Rutherford in Napa Valley, California. It is a Bordeaux-oriented blend with Cabernet Sauvignon at its core, supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Carménère and Petit Verdot.The wine comes entirely from the Quintessa estate in eastern Rutherford, between the Vaca Mountains and the Napa River. Across the property, vineyard blocks differ in soil and microclimate, with volcanic ash, rocky soils, loam and alluvial deposits all playing their part. Each block is harvested and vinified separately before the final blend is composed, giving the wine a layered sense of estate character.
The 2018 growing season was described by Quintessa as even and balanced after five warm years. A long harvest window allowed flavour, phenolic ripeness and acidity to develop without strong pressure from rapidly rising sugar levels. The wine then matured for 20 months in French oak, 62% of it new. The estate's CCOF Organic certification and biodynamic farming practices add further context to this careful, vineyard-led approach.

Quintessa is a winery from Napa Valley, California, that has positioned itself since its first harvest in 1994 as a producer of wines exclusively from its own estate. This estate is located in the prestigious Rutherford appellation and covers approximately 113 hectares, where various grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carménère are carefully planted. Quintessa mainly produces a single wine per vintage, usually a blend of the aforementioned Bordeaux varietals, which reflects the estate's terroir. The vineyard and winery employ a biodynamic and sustainable approach, which plays an important role both in the vineyards and during the vinification process. The estate is known for its elegant, balanced style, in which complexity and aging potential come together, with an emphasis on purity of fruit and restrained use of oak.
