Quintessa 2018 Demi is Quintessa's estate red wine from Rutherford in Napa Valley. Demi refers to the 37.5 cl half-bottle format, not to a separate cuvée, so this is the same 2018 estate wine in a smaller bottle. At Drankenshop Broekmans, it stands out as a Rutherford estate bottling with a strong vintage story and only the last bottles remaining.The wine comes from Quintessa Estate on the eastern edge of Rutherford, bordered by the Vaca Mountains and the Napa River. The 2018 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with small portions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Carménère and Petit Verdot. Quintessa works with individual vineyard blocks that are managed, harvested and vinified separately before the final estate blend is composed. The grapes are described as coming from biodynamically farmed vineyards, with the wine linked to CCOF Organic certification.
Quintessa describes 2018 as an even, balanced growing season after five warm years. Harvest ran from 18 September to 25 October, giving the fruit time to develop ripeness, acidity, phenolic structure and aromatic detail without strong pressure from rapidly rising sugar levels. The wine spent 20 months in French oak, 62% of it new, and was bottled on 13 July 2020.
The vintage received notable recognition, including 99 points from James Suckling, 98 points from Wine Enthusiast, 96 points from Falstaff and 94+ points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Those reviews underline the picture of a structured Napa Valley red with depth, ripe fruit, refined tannins and further ageing capacity.

Quintessa is a winery from Napa Valley, California, that has positioned itself since its first harvest in 1994 as a producer of wines exclusively from its own estate. This estate is located in the prestigious Rutherford appellation and covers approximately 113 hectares, where various grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carménère are carefully planted. Quintessa mainly produces a single wine per vintage, usually a blend of the aforementioned Bordeaux varietals, which reflects the estate's terroir. The vineyard and winery employ a biodynamic and sustainable approach, which plays an important role both in the vineyards and during the vinification process. The estate is known for its elegant, balanced style, in which complexity and aging potential come together, with an emphasis on purity of fruit and restrained use of oak.
