Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015 is a Tuscan red wine with a strong sense of origin and vintage selection. This Riserva comes from Montalcino and is made from Sangiovese, known locally as Brunello. Poggio Antico only produces this cuvée in certain years, when selected parcels show the concentration, acidity, tannic structure and ageing potential the estate is looking for.The vineyard setting is an important part of the story. The grapes come from Poggio Antico's high-altitude vineyards south of Montalcino, at around 500 metres, on a south-facing plateau with gravelly, stony soils. For the 2015 vintage, the estate describes healthy grapes, full ripening and September temperature differences that helped aromatic development.
After vinification, the wine spent 30 months in traditional large casks of Slavonian and French oak, followed by a further 30 months in bottle. Production was listed at 6,000 bottles. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Brunello that stands out through its combination of maturity, structure and limited availability, especially as these are the last bottles.
The strong critical recognition reported for this vintage, including 97 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and James Suckling, fits the style: powerful, concentrated and built with depth. It belongs at the table with robust dishes such as red meat, game, mushrooms or cheese, and it will benefit from time in a carafe before serving.

Poggio Antico is a wine estate located in the heart of Tuscany, near the town of Montalcino. The estate focuses on the production of mainly Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino, two renowned Italian red wines made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. Poggio Antico has vineyards situated at about 450 meters above sea level, which contributes to a favorable microclimate and a slow, balanced ripening of the grapes.
