Product info about Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2017 Magnum (1,5l)
Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2017 Magnum is a Clare Valley Shiraz with a very specific origin. It comes from The Armagh Vineyard near Clare, planted by Jim Barry in 1968 and known for low yields. The 1.5 litre magnum is not a separate cuvée, but the same wine in a larger bottle, giving it extra presence for cellaring or serving at the table. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this wine as more than simply a powerful Australian Shiraz. The 2017 vintage is described as a cooler year for The Armagh, bringing more red fruit, lively acidity and a less massive structure than some richer vintages. It remains concentrated, but there is a finer, more measured side to its character.
For this vintage, the individual blocks of The Armagh Vineyard were vinified separately. The wine matured for 18 months in French oak, and 2017 marks the move to fully French oak for The Armagh, with no American oak. That shift matters, because it places more emphasis on vineyard expression and a different, more refined integration of oak.
The Armagh is one of the key wines of Jim Barry Wines. Its name refers to the historic settlement of Armagh, founded by Irish settlers, and the first vintage was released in 1985. Its Exceptional classification in Langton's Classification of Australian Wine reinforces its standing within Australian Shiraz. Availability of this magnum is now limited.
