Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grand Cuvée Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2019 in magnum is a Rhône red with a very clear identity. Created by the Famille Perrin as a tribute to Jacques Perrin, this cuvée stands apart from the regular Beaucastel Rouge through its strong emphasis on Mourvèdre. For the 2019 vintage, the blend is 60% Mourvèdre, supported by 20% Grenache and 20% Syrah.The wine comes from the northern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, where Château de Beaucastel owns around 110 hectares of contiguous vineyard. Surface galets roulés, with clay, sand and limestone beneath, provide the setting for a wine built around depth, structure and long development. The old vines have been farmed organically for more than fifty years, and certified organic grapes according to Ecocert are mentioned for this cuvée.
The 2019 growing season was hot, but the estate reports that the vines suffered little water stress. That detail matters: the tasting descriptions point not only to concentration and power, but also to notable freshness for the style. Ageing in foudre suits that character, allowing the wine's scale and structure to speak without turning the focus purely toward oak.
