Cos D'Estournel Blanc 2017 shows a different side of a Bordeaux name better known for red wine. This is a white Bordeaux from Château Cos d'Estournel, made from white grapes grown in the northern Médoc, close to the wide Gironde estuary.The 2017 blend is led by Sauvignon Blanc, with Sémillon playing a supporting role. For this vintage, the estate highlights the cool conditions during the growing cycle, helping Sauvignon Blanc retain its fruity aromatic profile. The small white vineyard, influenced by salty winds, gravelly elevation and limestone, gives the wine its own place within the Cos d'Estournel story.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we like to present to customers who know Bordeaux but want to explore it from a less obvious angle. The wine spent ten months maturing largely in used barrels, with only a small proportion of new barriques. The emphasis is therefore not on oak, but on precision, freshness, texture and length.
The estate recommends opening the bottle at the moment of serving, without decanting, at around 10 to 11 °C. A pairing mentioned for this wine is lightly seared scallops with a lemon-driven condiment, a setting that suits its freshness and exotic fruit notes. Only the last bottles of this vintage remain.

Cos D'Estournel is a winery from the French Bordeaux region, more specifically from the appellation Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate, which dates back to the early 19th century, is named after the founder Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, who developed the vineyard on the Cos hill into a distinctive wine estate. Cos D'Estournel is widely recognized as a Deuxième Cru Classé (Second Growth) according to the historical classification of 1855. The winery is known for its stylish, powerful red wines, which are usually blended with a relatively high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented with Merlot and sometimes small quantities of other Bordeaux grapes.
