Flavour notes

The aroma is rich and intense, bringing dried red fruits, grilled meat and roasted walnuts, all wrapped in a deep, elegant peat smoke.

On the palate it feels full and generous, with candied orange, tropical fruit, salted caramel and dried plums. Cinnamon and nutmeg add warmth, while the peat smoke stays neatly integrated with the sweeter and spiced elements.

The finish is long and persistent, with spice, roasted dark chocolate and liquorice, supported by a balanced thread of peat smoke.

Product info about Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026

Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Edition 2026 is a peated Islay single malt with a strong sense of place. It takes its name from Loch Gorm, the dark, peaty loch overlooking the Kilchoman distillery, and that image suits the whisky well: unmistakably Islay, shaped by peat smoke, yet with a deeper sherried side.

The whisky has spent at least 10 years in oloroso sherry casks from Bodega José y Miguel Martín in Spain. Those casks bring a richer aromatic layer, with dried fruit, spice and dark chocolate set against Kilchoman's characteristic peat smoke. Fresh citrus notes keep the whisky from feeling too heavy and add a lively edge to the darker sherry influence.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of release we like to place in front of drinkers who enjoy Islay whisky with substance from sherry maturation, while still wanting the smoke to remain clearly present. With the last bottles now indicated, this 2026 edition is also one that will not stay around indefinitely.

About KILCHOMAN

Kilchoman started producing whisky in 2005. It was the first time in many decades that another new distillery opened on the mythical island of Islay. More so, now, almost 20 years later, it has emerged that Kilchoman was one of the first of a huge wave of new Scottish distilleries - more than 50 have joined in recent years. That Kilchoman would be a keeper was written in the stars. From the outset, what stood out was how the focus was always on quality first, without compromise. Those compliments are for Anthony Wills, the Englishman who dared to start something new. Together with his two sons, he has since built Kilchoman into a fixture on the whisky landscape, and the distillery has steadily expanded in terms of production capacity. Currently, they can produce up to 650,000 litres there on an annual basis, and plans are to grow even further, towards the million mark. We certainly don't mind that, as what is made there is always in taste.

The house style is a firmly-turfed whisky, entirely in the classic Islay style. The basic range consists of the Machir Bay (aged almost entirely in bourbon casks), the Sanaig (about 50/50 bourbon and sherry casks) and the Loch Gorm (mostly sherry cask). There is also the 100% Islay, for which they work with barley grown exclusively on Islay, and the Batch Strength, a recent addition at a higher alcohol content. Kilchoman single casks are always an adventure, as there is no shying away from experimenting with special cask maturities like tequila, Sauternes, Madeira or STR (Shave, Toast, Rechar). This makes Kilchoman products favourites of whisky connoisseurs.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of whisky is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026?

Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is a single malt whisky.

The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.

Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 a no age statement whisky (NAS)?

No, Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 a single cask whisky?

No, Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is not a single cask whisky.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 a whisky at cask strength?

No, Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is not whisky at cask strength.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 suitable to give as a gift?

Although this Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 een goede keuze voor mij?

This Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 can be a whisky one that suits you if you like a whisky with a smoky character. Indeed, the peat flavour is quite prominent in the flavour profile.

However, we recommend that you also look at the rest of the flavour profile, as this peatiness is of course only one part of the overall character of this whisky.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 a tarred whisky?

Yes, Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is a whisky with a reasonably peated flavour profile: the smokiness of this whisky will be unmistakable with every sip. However, it is more moderate than in the most intensely peated whisky.

Peaty, smoky or peat is a typical flavour associated with a particular type of whisky. It is a flavour you have to (learn to) love.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 a spicy whisky?

Yes, Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is a whisky with a fairly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.

The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.

  • In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
  • With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
  • Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 a fruity whisky?

On its own, yes, but Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is a whisky with only a slightly fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky is hidden in the flavour profile, balanced with the other parts of the profile.

  • Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
  • Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 pure or with ice?

Whether you drink this Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.

Does Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 have a high alcohol content?

The alcohol content of this Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is higher than what you would expect from an average whisky expect. While not extremely exceptional, a whisky of around 46% is somewhat rarer anyway. Most whisky is usually closer to 40%.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 an independent bottling?

No, Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is an official bottling of Kilchoman.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 suitable for an Irish Coffee?

To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.

Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 vegan?

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.

Is Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 a biological whisky?

Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10y Editie 2026 whisky from Kilchoman is not an organic product.

How do I get started on Scotch whisky?

Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.

To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.

You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
