Product info about Isle Of Harris 2018 7y

Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a young Scottish single malt with a clear island identity. Distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2025 after seven years of maturation, it spent its time in a first fill bourbon cask. It is also the first Isle of Harris bottling for Adelphi, giving it a noteworthy place in the Drankenshop Broekmans selection.

Drawn from a single bourbon barrel and bottled at cask strength, it keeps close to the original cask and spirit character. Only 252 bottles were produced, so this is a small-scale release rather than a broad, everyday expression. With the last bottles now in view, that limited nature becomes part of its appeal.

The style is fresh and maritime, with lively spice, a touch of fruit and a gentle salty edge. The wood is present but restrained, allowing the young island character to remain clear and energetic.

The aroma opens with vanilla, sea air and citrus, giving the whisky a fresh coastal lift from the start.

On the palate it is lively and crisp, with subtle wood showing the bourbon cask influence without weighing it down. The finish is soft and lightly salty, leaving a clean maritime impression.

About ISLE OF HARRIS

Isle Of Harris is a whisky brand originating from the eponymous Scottish island, located in the Outer Hebrides. The Isle of Harris Distillery was opened in 2015 and has since been a new face in the Scottish whisky world. The distillery building is situated on the edge of the fishing village of Tarbert and was deliberately established to bring sustainable employment and economic development to the island. Although the distillery initially became mainly known for their Isle Of Harris Gin, they have been working on their own single malt whisky since the beginning. The first expression, The Hearach, was launched in 2023 and is named after the local word for an inhabitant of Harris. Isle Of Harris focuses on authentic production using only Scottish barley and pure island water, which is seen as a typical feature of their production style. Through maturation in a mix of American oak, European oak, and sherry casks, a flavor profile develops in which influences from the island are subtly recognizable, but pronounced peat is absent. With a focus on craftsmanship, regional identity, and small-scale production, Isle Of Harris contributes to the diversity of Scottish single malts and offers enthusiasts an introduction to the young, fresh side of the modern whisky tradition.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of whisky is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y?

Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a single malt whisky.

The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.

Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y a no age statement whisky (NAS)?

No, Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y a single cask whisky?

Yes, Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a single cask whisky. That makes this spirit unique of its kind, because because it only came from one cask and was not blended with other casks, only the other bottles from the same cask are exactly the same.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y a whisky at cask strength?

Yes, Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a whisky cask strength. A cask strength whisky is not diluted with water before bottling, but goes straight from the cask into the bottle and therefore retains the alcohol percentage during/after cask maturation.

One of the advantages of a cask-strength whisky is that, as a drinker, you can decide how strong you like your whisky by diluting or not diluting it with a little water yourself according to your preference, instead of the producer having already done this for you.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y suitable to give as a gift?

Although this Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Isle Of Harris 2018 7y might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y een goede keuze voor mij?

This Isle Of Harris 2018 7y can be a whisky that suits you if you like a whisky with a spicy character. Indeed, this spiciness is quite emphatic in the flavour profile.

However, we recommend that you also check out the rest of the flavour profile, as it is of course only one part of the overall character of this whisky.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y a tarred whisky?

On its own, yes, but Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is one whisky in which the smokiness is only very slightly present in the flavour profile. So you will find some peatiness in it, but it is balanced with the rest and does not take over.

Peat is a typical flavour associated with a particular type of whisky. It is a flavour you have to (learn to) love. A whisky like this one, which is only mildly peated, is a great stepping stone to get acquainted with this flavour type.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y a spicy whisky?

Yes, Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a whisky with a fairly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.

The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.

  • In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
  • With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
  • Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y a fruity whisky?

On its own, yes, but Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a whisky with only a slightly fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky is hidden in the flavour profile, balanced with the other parts of the profile.

  • Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
  • Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Isle Of Harris 2018 7y pure or with ice?

Whether you drink this Isle Of Harris 2018 7y whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.

Does Isle Of Harris 2018 7y have a high alcohol content?

Whisky of more than 52% is rather rare. Often, such a high alcohol content is due to the fact that it is a cask strength whisky (a whisky cask strength): the whisky in that case is not diluted before bottling so it goes into the bottle at a higher alcohol content. Whisky with a high alcohol content often benefits from a few drops of water to release the aromas and make the alcohol less predominant in the glass, and in itself is also fine for use in stronger cocktails.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y an independent bottling?

Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a whisky of the Isle Of Harris brand bottled by the independent bottler Adelphi. That makes this bottle an independent bottling.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y suitable for an Irish Coffee?

To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Isle Of Harris 2018 7y is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.

Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y vegan?

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.

Is Isle Of Harris 2018 7y a biological whisky?

Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Isle Of Harris 2018 7y whisky from Isle Of Harris is not an organic product.

How do I get started on Scotch whisky?

Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.

To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.

You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
