Flavour notes

The aroma brings walnut, blood orange, spiced breakfast cake and polished leather, followed by macerated red fruit with a morello cherry note. Peat is clearly there, but it sits within a broader, richer frame.

On the palate it is round and full, with roasted hazelnut, plums and cocoa. The Oloroso cask contributes wine-like structure and sweet tannins. The finish stays balanced, moving through dried fruit, sweet spice with cinnamon and a small touch of liquorice.

Product info about Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027

Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is a Highland single malt with a firm sense of identity. The peat is clearly part of the whisky, while the Oloroso finish brings in a drier sherry influence with nuts, orange and a pleasant bite.

Berry Bros. & Rudd bottled this release as part of Berry's Exceptional Casks. Their Odyssey concept is built around matching Scottish single malts with selected wine casks from across Europe, taking time to find the right cask rather than rushing the process. In this case, the Oloroso cask adds structure and depth to the more smoky side of Ruadh Mhor.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this bottle stands out because it brings together several details that matter: a 2010 single cask, matured for 15 years, bottled in 2025 at 55.5% ABV and drawn from cask #8027. With 579 bottles released, and only the last bottles remaining, it represents a very specific snapshot of one individual cask.

About GLENTURRET

Glenturret is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Whisky was already being made at this location on the banks of the Turret in 1775. For a very long time, the distillery was unique because it was the only one using a mash tun with an open top that was also stirred by hand. Since 2022, however, they have installed a modern semilauter tun. The distillery was furthermore for a long time mainly known as the home of the famous Famous Grouse blend. Since 2019 and the acquisition by the Lalique Group, however, the focus has shifted back to the single malt, which has been relaunched. It is also unique that a top restaurant has been installed in the distillery, which has even had a Michelin star since 2022.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of whisky is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027?

Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is a single malt whisky.

The word 'single' causes some confusion for many. A single malt is nothing more and nothing less than a product from a single distillery. So it has nothing to do with a single cask or even casks of the same age.

Single malt whisky is made from malted barley and distilled in the famous copper pot stills, the distinctive copper stills.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 a no age statement whisky (NAS)?

No, Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is not a no age statement (NAS) whisky. The label explicitly states an age and that age represents the youngest whisky found in the bottle (or in the blend).

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 a single cask whisky?

Yes, Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is a single cask whisky. That makes this spirit unique of its kind, because because it only came from one cask and was not blended with other casks, only the other bottles from the same cask are exactly the same.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 a whisky at cask strength?

No, Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is not whisky at cask strength.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 suitable to give as a gift?

Although this Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular whisky combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced whisky-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 een goede keuze voor mij?

This Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 can be a whisky one that suits you if you like a whisky with a smoky character. Indeed, the peat flavour is quite prominent in the flavour profile.

However, we recommend that you also look at the rest of the flavour profile, as this peatiness is of course only one part of the overall character of this whisky.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 a tarred whisky?

Yes, Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is a whisky with a reasonably peated flavour profile: the smokiness of this whisky will be unmistakable with every sip. However, it is more moderate than in the most intensely peated whisky.

Peaty, smoky or peat is a typical flavour associated with a particular type of whisky. It is a flavour you have to (learn to) love.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 a spicy whisky?

On its own, yes, but this Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is one whisky with only a slightly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this whisky is not emphatic in the flavour profile, but it is there.

The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.

  • In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
  • With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
  • Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 a fruity whisky?

On its own, yes, but Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is a whisky with only a slightly fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this whisky is hidden in the flavour profile, balanced with the other parts of the profile.

  • Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruit and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
  • Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Do you drink Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 pure or with ice?

Whether you drink this Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 whisky best with or without ice is a personal choice. We have always chosen not to take a stance on adding water or ice to whisky. There are certainly good reasons to add a little water to your whisky, but whether it adds value to you or detracts from your enjoyment is something you should mainly discover for yourself.

Does Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 have a high alcohol content?

Whisky of more than 52% is rather rare. Often, such a high alcohol content is due to the fact that it is a cask strength whisky (a whisky cask strength): the whisky in that case is not diluted before bottling so it goes into the bottle at a higher alcohol content. Whisky with a high alcohol content often benefits from a few drops of water to release the aromas and make the alcohol less predominant in the glass, and in itself is also fine for use in stronger cocktails.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 an independent bottling?

Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is a whisky of the Glenturret brand bottled by the independent bottler Berry Bros. That makes this bottle an independent bottling.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 suitable for an Irish Coffee?

To make an Irish Coffee according to the rules of the art, you need an Irish whiskey. Since you are going to mix it with coffee and whipped cream, we recommend using a good, but not overpriced whiskey. This Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 is a whiskey, but because this whiskey comes from Scotland it is not the best choice to make a "real" Irish Coffee.

Did you know that the first Irish Coffee was invented in 1942 by bartender Joe Sheridan? He was working at the airport in Foynes, in the west of Ireland. The barman saw some tired passengers and figured they needed coffee with something special. To perk them up, he poured them coffee with a dash of whiskey mixed in and some coffee on top. When asked if it was Brazilian coffee, Sheridon replied, "No, my friend, this is Irish Coffee." And so it was.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 vegan?

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.

Is Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 a biological whisky?

Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Ruadh Mhor 2010 15y #8027 whisky from Glenturret is not an organic product.

How do I get started on Scotch whisky?

Many people assume that a more expensive bottle of Scotch whisky is automatically better. It sounds logical: the higher the price, the better the quality. But in reality, the difference between a bottle of a few tens and one worth thousands of euros is rarely purely in the taste. What you pay has much more to do with age, scarcity, marketing and reputation than with what you actually taste in your glass.

To understand this properly, it helps to look at Scotch in different "levels". Each level tells you something about what you are drinking and, more importantly, what you are paying for, but not every epicurean goes through all these levels.

You can read all about it in our blog post Why an expensive Scotch doesn't necessarily taste better - the different levels of Scotch.
